James “Ike” Holzapfel is a teaching and learning consultant with the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio, bringing more than 20 years of experience in public education. He began his career in 2001, serving as a mathematics teacher for 10 years and a PK–8 administrator for another 10 years before transitioning into educational consulting in 2021.

Areas of Expertise:
  • Math instructional coaching

  • Strengthening instructional systems through team coaching (PLC/TBT) and leadership coaching (principals)

  • Supporting districts in exploring, selecting, and implementing high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) in mathematics and social studies

  • Analyzing instructional data to improve assessment, instructional design, and delivery

  • Mastery-based grading and assessment practices, including standards-based reporting and mastery-based assessment

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) policy development and implementation

Ike partners collaboratively with districts to design customized professional learning, including workshops, pull-out sessions, and one-on-one coaching, with an emphasis on practical, sustainable improvement.
